Vienna Exhibition

exhibition: Meina Schellander

Meina Schellander (born in Klagenfurt in 1946) is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Austrian art. fjk3–Raum für zeitgenössische Kunst is dedicating an extensive solo exhibition to the artist, featuring key works spanning almost six decades.

Schellander’s work ranges from drawing and painting to sculpture and installation, as well as projects in public space. At its core is a way of thinking through lines, forms, and language, which takes shape in ever-changing configurations. Her works bring together different materials and spatial structures, establishing orders while simultaneously putting them under tension.

Meina Schellander’s art emerges from a persistent process of thought that refuses to settle for ready-made answers, probes boundaries and embraces contradictions. Her nonconformity reflects a steadfast artistic conviction and a determination to preserve the freedom of artistic thought.

Exhibition: Meina Schellander – Ansatzweise.

The exhibition Ansatzweise1 offers insight into an artistic practice whose early poetic explorations have evolved into a complex body of work, consistently transcending the boundaries between media and disciplines. At the same time, the title points to what an exhibition can achieve in the face of such complexity: an approach to a body of work whose intellectual and formal diversity extends far beyond what can be presented here.

Meina Schellander’s works have been shown in exhibitions in Austria and abroad, including the Museum of the 20th Century Vienna, the Vienna Secession, the Lentos Art Museum Linz, the Museum of Modern Art Carinthia, the Museum Liaunig Neuhaus/Suha, the Neue Galerie Graz, as well as in Basel and Ljubljana. In addition to her visual practice, she has published several textual works in which her visual language continues on a literary level. Meina Schellander is represented by Galerie Crone Vienna/Berlin and is a member of the Vienna Secession.
