AN ISLAND AS A TABLE

Above it all hangs the ruffled piece of leather. On the magnetic board: collected photos and small Post-it notes from the theater plays. The tall plastic glass sits in the corner, as if no air could fit inside it.

Scissors in two sizes, a flower-shaped paper ribbon, and a tiny black velvet bag. Threads with pins stuck in them and buttons in every form one could imagine.

A ruler etched with geometric figures. A deep red lipstick that doesn’t quite suit her, yet she keeps it because of its packaging. A small clay sculpture, a knotted object. Liquid black ink, sheets of stickers. Greeting cards. A wooden bookstand holds a mediumsized book, a monotype print. A photograph of a model from the 1960s. Three candles, one out of ceramic. Function and dysfunction.

A postcard lies upside down. The program for the summer festival she hasn’t attended yet. Waits.

Tissues and bookmarks, along with keychains, are crystalline and molded from aluminum.

A glass jar holds a hair clip, a tape measure, lip balm, metal edges, and connectors. A box of colored pencils, a stack of papers. A purple glass bottle shaped like a high-heeled shoe. All of it in relation to her existence. Often useless, yet present. The island where she settles each day. An island from where everything comes from.
