Lise Grendene. Very deep emotions.

Lise Grendene is a Brazilian Italian artist living in London and growing to develop her own artistic style under the name Lize Bartelli. Her pursuit into the art world was sparked after a deepened exposure to the design realm through several jobs within fashion.

She has furthermore attained degrees in art history and philosphy. Throughout out her childhood and adolescence she was exposed a lot to the theatre where her mother used to work.

Describe your art in detail.
My art mainly oscillates between abstract and figurative work – especially self-portraits which are on the one hand a fine means of self-discovery and on the other hand convenient since I am always available to pose. I have been also been developing a passionate relationship with colours. At the moment I am using a lot of primary colours, but I feel like as I’m growing more and more fond of colour, I become more and more adventurous in my colour choice. I believe colours are intimately connected to very deep emotions and I personally feel like they can have profound therapeutic effects. Furthermore, I have been working a lot with layers as well as experimenting with introducing different textures in my paintings. And while I am always exploring new techniques when creating abstract work, what I feel the acts of painting always have in common is that I feel like I am in a kind of trance while I paint. I usually start from an initial concept or idea of what I want the work to mean or represent – but from there I just go by raw emotion and instinct, a process which is at times something of a cathartic experience. My goal is to convey those emotions and sensations in my work.

What inspires you?
Everything! The bad and the Good and the in-between.

Where do you paint? What does your studio look like?
My studio is in my home. It’s quite lovely since it faces a little garden. There is a lot of natural light – or at least as much as UK-weather allows. It’s a wonderful organised little mess.

What makes you thoughtful?
Life.

Do you have a ritual? In the morning or in the evening?
I would love to sound mystical and say yes but… No, I don’t.

What comes next?
I am always learning. I would love to start showing my work in group shows. That is what’s coming next.
