Seine künstlerische Praxis ist Mittel zum Zweck: Raum, Zeit und der richtige Zeitpunkt spielen eine wichtige Rolle, es sind mitunter flüchtige Momentaufnahmen, die in aufwändigen Fotografien inszeniert werden. The repertoire of works and projects by Johannes Rass can’t be narrowed down to an artistic position, a preferred material or a specific topic. In fact, each work is based on a self-contained idea, a concrete interrogation, which is of extraordinary importance. It creates the framework, is starting point, driving force and, simultaneously, the motor for implementation. The game of ascribing to but also contradicting contextualizations is a recurrent focus in his projects, which are situated between installation, performance, photography. The partly humorous unmasking of existing paradigms is shown through his calculated intentions. His artistic practice is a means to an end: Space, time and the right moment play a major role in his projects. Often it is about fleeting snapshots that are staged in complex, constructed photographs. Johannes Rass lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
