Mit dutzenden Lampen, strahlend auf verschiedenen Ebenen, am Boden, zur Decke empor leuchtend, dunkle Ecken erhellend, entnommen ihrem ursprünglichen Wirkungsraum, schafft der Künstler einen Wald aus Licht und immer auch Schatten. Eine Kakophonie für das Auge, die sich in die Netzhaut brennt und dramaturgisch weitergetragen wird von der Ebene des Sounds: Korrespondierend, gegensätzlich, mal laut und mitreißend, mal lullend und sanft. Die Betrachterinnen werden zu (interaktiven) Akteurinnen, zu Existenzen in einem geschlossenen System, ihr Sein repräsentiert über Lichtstimmungen und Farbcodes: der sanfte Rotschimmer einer Gebärmutterwand, das gleißende Weiß apokalyptischer Träume von Verlorenheit und Sterilität, donneruntermaltes Blau wie ein rasch aufziehendes Gewitter auf freiem Feld. Licht und Dunkelheit werden hier nicht als Gegensatzpaar begriffen, sondern vielmehr als der Ursprung, aus dem sich alles ergibt, auch der Mensch, und der sich mit seinem Eingriff in ein Ganzes immer nur der eigenen Perversion hinzugeben vermag.
English. LUMEN. The inside against the outside. A play with space. An interaction with the place.
Lumen – The strength of light. Unity. Lumen – that which is within, the space, the width, the light of the blood vessels, organs and the cell bodies against the outside. Johannes Rass‘s intermedial installation LUMEN not only incorporates both definitions of the term, but also sub-consciously links and condenses them into a holistic spatial and sensory experience. Dozens of lamps, shining on different levels, on the floor and the ceiling, illuminating dark corners. Taken from their original action space, the artist creates a forest of light and of shadow, creating a cacophony for the eye, which burns itself into the retina and is dramaturgically carried on by the level of sound, corresponding, contrasting, sometimes loud and rousing, sometimes lulling and gentle. The viewers become (interactive) participants, existing in a closed system, represented by light moods and color codes: the soft red shimmer of the uterine wall, the glistening white of apocalyptic dreams of forlornness and sterility, thunderous blue like a rapidly approaching thunderstorm in the open field. Here, light and darkness are not regarded as opposites, but rather as the origin from which everything arises, including human beings, and which, with its intervention, is only ever able to indulge in its own perversion.
